Savory Bread Pudding
1 pound loaf day old French bread, cut in 1 inch cubes
1 quart of milk
4 tablespoons butter, melted
4 eggs
1/4 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/4 teaspoon salt
5 threads saffron
1/4 cup brown sugar
Soak bread in milk and other ingredients overnight. Beat eggs until creamy, add sugar and spices.
Pour in melted butter and pour mixture over bread and milk.
Combine thoroughly. Pour into a buttered casserole dish and bake for 50 minutes.
