Savory Bread Pudding
1 pound loaf day old French bread, cut in 1 inch cubes
1 quart of milk
4 tablespoons butter, melted
4 eggs
1/4 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/4 teaspoon salt
5 threads saffron
1/4 cup brown sugar
Cube bread the night before. Gather and
measure all ingredients the night before.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees, while juicing oranges and assembling pudding.Soak
bread in milk. Beat eggs until creamy, add sugar and spices. Pour in
melted butter and pour mixture over bread and milk.
Combine thoroughly. Pour into a buttered casserole dish and bake for
50 minutes. Remove from oven and serve when you are ready.
